It is one of the fundamentals of biology, and helps scientists discover how living things operate and grow. Evolution also shows the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution in order to better understand nature and make useful discoveries such as new drugs. The evidence for biological evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains more about the universe and the life on our planet. It has been rigorously examined and confirmed for many years. Many people, even some religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is important to note that evolutionary biology doesn't interfere with religions, since the theory only deals with things, events and processes within the physical world. In reality many religious people have found ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. Some Christians for instance, believe that God created everything through evolution, and that humans share a common ancestry to other animals. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation was true and that the universe and the life on Earth were created just recently. OECs are less well known, but they are just as enthusiastic about their beliefs as YECs. OECs believe that the universe and all life on Earth are billions of years old and they believe that evolution is an untruth. Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origins of life on Earth. They argue that evolution isn't possible because it requires an extraordinary event, and that the pioneers of modern science shied away from miracles due to fear that they would lose credibility. Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution as well as special creation, and refer to their position “theistic evolution.” It is sometimes referred to as “continuous creationism” or “evolution from the created species.” The theory suggests that God creates original species and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species that are similar to the original. Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event called the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the original species were all created at the same time, and that they grew slowly afterward. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis and claim that the self-replicating creation of organisms from nonliving matter is unattainable. In general, creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position and so do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some academic institutions and scientists are, however, more flexible and permit both creationism and evolution to be included in their curriculum. What exactly is Creationism in Korea? When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of textbooks for high school students have recently announced that they will remove references to evolution from their textbooks. A group dubbed the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research and has been the driving force behind the move. STR has secured its first victory by removing instances of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor, the Archeopteryx from textbooks. The next goal is to remove portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research as well as on human evolution. STR claims that it has the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its mission, it states is to cleanse the world of what it calls “atheist materialism” which portrays an unflattering image for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American creationists in the United States.
